Govt free of Religion

Some times I find people criticizing any acknowledgement of religions by govt and want Indian govt to be completely free of religion, whatever it means. I find such positions on politics and religion a second hand copied notion from the West. Since the Western world had waged wars in the name of religion and done inquisitions, witch hunting and scientists burning, and most recently priestly abuse of kids in churches, religion is on the decline in the West. Therefore people in the West think that removing religion is the best way to make a better society. It is absurd if we copy the same scenario even in India because we are not like them and our dharma is not like their religion. I think intellectual bankruptcy makes us take used and abused positions and we imagine that we are some pseudo intellectuals going to save the world by denouncing Hinduism in the name of denouncing religion and its role.

Guru Nanak's Actual Photo - Fake?

I found this picture on Facebook, claiming to be Guru Nanak's Original picture. The description reads:  This is the orignal painting of sri guru nanak dev ji. It was painted by a muslim artist while guru ji was in mecca and sitting in front of him. Plzzz everybody like and share with your friends.  It is shared at many places including:  https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=704069712952310&set=a.206651782694108.64134.199073080118645&type=1&relevant_count=1&ref=nf Sorry, I am not sure if it is real image. Internet is full of fake images of great persons. Here are my doubts:  First, I think it is a camera shot and not really a painting, as it appears.  Secondly, we know that painting and making portraits is Un-Islamic (this is why they don't have any image of Mohd), so how could they make painting of Guru Nanak in Mecca?  I think this is part of a propaganda to connect Sikhs with Muslims which is having serious con...

Bihar Riots August 2013

This is really shameful. Muslim youth should be sensible and tolerant or respecting Hindus for not serving non-veg during the holy month of Sawan. Spat over dhaba not serving chicken led to communal riot Santosh Singh : Nawada, Wed Aug 14 2013, 12:33 hrs A roadside dhaba's refusal to serve chicken in the month of saawan led to an argument that took a communal colour and triggered clashes during which a 14-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man were killed in Nawada, officials said. Police said the violence was fanned by "rumour mongering by anti-social elements from both communities". Nawada town, headquarters of Bihar's Nawada district, remained under curfew on Tuesday. Police forces from Patna and Nalanda have arrived to bolster the district police. "It is regettable that an argument over a dhaba not serving chicken led to a communal clash. Most people involved were aged under 20," said Nawada district panchayati raj public relations officer S C Jha. Offi...

Cooking is an art; and there will be classes of artists

Is it possible to appreciate a woman for her cooking; saying that she cooks very-very well? Someone questioned such appreciation saying that all women cook well and it depends on her family’s taste whether they appreciate her or not. The implying conclusion was that no woman should be appreciated for her cooking; because all women cook well. I think obviously cooking is an art (also a science as such) and just like all forms of arts there would be good and bad cooks, just like there are good and bad artists/painters/singers/actors/etc. No one is questioning one's internal feelings. A pathetic singer can sing from his heart and yet create a commotion. It is true that tastes vary and what appears more appetizing to one may not appear the same to another; but that does not mean artists can never be judged on their art. It is possible to judge a piece of art without personal biases. Hence we have different classes of artists.

Morgan Freeman said Obama is not Black

We all saw how Obama tried to position himself as a Black person, so as to get votes of non-Whites. Even till date he does occasional positioning, like when a Black teen died in a scuffle of mistaken identity, Obama said that he would have looked like the kid, some years back! Essentially, it was to show his sympathy and flattering towards people from a particular skin color. But the fact is that Obama is not ‘black’. Though it has been shared by many, here is what Morgan Freeman said: Morgan Freeman told NPR's "Tell Me More" host Michel Martin in an interview: "They just conveniently forget that Barack had a mama, and she was white - very white American, Kansas, middle America," the Oscar winner continued. "There was no argument about who he is or what he is. America's first black president hasn't arisen yet. He's not America's first black president - he's America's first mixed-race president." "He is...

Ishrat Jahan was a Terrorist

This was shared by Dr. Subramanian Swamy on Facebook and remains a very strong point in support of Gujarat Police, IB and even Narendra Modi: Ishrat Jahan .. an Innocent girl with 3 terrorists? The case is a flop, it is over before it began. 1) FBI informed IB that Ishrat Jahan is an Islamist LeT suicide bomber. A 'Fidayeen' who wanted to assassinate Narendra Modi. 2) LeT's website claimed Ishrat Jahan as one of their own. 3) Ishrat's mother says Ishrat was kidnapped 4 days before she was encountered in Gujarat. But no missing person's report is filed ? very convenient indeed. 4) Satish Verma (IPS officer investigaating the case) was a nominee of Ishrat Jahan's mother in the SIT. 5) Abdul Gani was killed in Ishrat Jahan encounter and he could be heard on tape speaking to Lashkar Commander. 6) a report prepared by investigating officer in the Ishrat case, ACP Parixita Rathod submitted in the POTA court clarifies that Ishrat w...

Mumbai Dance Bars Should Remain Banned

So the court has said that there can't be a ban on Mumbai's Bar-Dancers, seeing the flesh trade as "right to take up any profession in India". One of our Profs had said that the ban was because these centers had become places of money laundering (black to white), and hence Govt had to ban it, though not mentioning this reason because of legal angles. From what our prof told us and I understood, criminals and businessmen would shower black money at these girls and the bar owners will also earn a cut (which the article tells that govt used to collect crores in taxes which they lost when they were shut down). I didn't know 100% of the nitty gritties of how these were money laundering centers, but I got what I said above... Reading some articles which have come up after this court order, strongest supporters of immoral trade are making following points: 1) When bar girls were stopped from their dirty trade, many of them had to commit suicide. 2) Wh...
